Translate Hebrew documents to English

Got a letter from Bituach Leumi, a rental contract, a payslip or a school notice in Hebrew? Upload the PDF and get it back in English in the same layout, so you can see which line says what.

Files are processed on our server and deleted automatically after one hour.

Made for life in Israel in English

New immigrants, students, workers from abroad and anyone with family in Israel run into the same thing: important paperwork arrives in Hebrew. These are the documents people translate most:

    • Letters from Bituach Leumi, the tax authority or the municipality: what they're asking for, by when, and how much.
    • Rental contracts: rent, deposit and guarantees, how long the lease runs, and what happens if you leave early.
    • Payslips: which line is tax, which is pension and which is keren hishtalmut.
    • Notices from school or kindergarten: dates, forms to sign and things to bring.
    • Bills and receipts: arnona, electricity, water, and bank or credit card statements.

    Read it side by side

With the original layout kept, the English version looks like the Hebrew one: same headings, same table, same place on the page. That makes it easy to find the line you need in the original, for example to point to it when you call the office, or to fill in a Hebrew form.

    Understanding vs. official use

Machine translation is for understanding a document and deciding what to do. Anything you submit to an authority, a court, a university or an embassy normally needs a certified translator, sometimes with a notary's approval. More on that in translating an official document.

    What to double-check

    • Amounts and deadlines: compare them with the Hebrew original before you act on them.
    • Israeli terms: arnona, keren hishtalmut, mas hachnasa. Many institutions use their own English names on their websites; look them up when it matters.
    • Dates: Israeli documents write day/month/year, so 03/04/2027 is 3 April.

A photo of a letter, or a Word file

Photographed a letter on your phone? Turn it into a PDF with JPG to PDF, run OCR (it reads Hebrew and English on the same page), then translate here. Convert a Word file with Word to PDF first.

    Need the other direction?

English to Hebrew document translation has its own page.

    How it works

    1. Upload the Hebrew PDF

A PDF with real text. For a photo or a scan of a letter, run OCR first.

    2. English is already selected

Keep the original layout on to compare the English with the Hebrew line by line.

    3. Download the English PDF

A few pages usually take under a minute.

    Frequently asked questions

Can I use the translation for an official application?

Usually not. Authorities, universities and embassies normally ask for a certified translation, sometimes with a notary's approval. Use this to understand a document and decide what to do, and a certified translator for what you submit.

What about Israeli terms like arnona or keren hishtalmut?

Institutions and terms with no English equivalent are usually written out in English letters, often with a short explanation. If a term matters, look it up on the official website to be sure.

My letter is a photo, not a PDF.

Turn the photo into a PDF with JPG to PDF, run OCR so it has text, then translate it here.

    Is it free?

Yes, with no sign-up. Translation allows a few files per hour per visitor.
